Looking up above the trench
I see the smoke rising
In the horizon
Will this be my last day here
Or maybe I will
Live
To see another day?

As this infernal symphony
Starts to fill my ears
I run through the rain
Of bullets and hellish pain
The firestorm surrounds me
Steel and death supremacy
...but still alive
Or have I reached eternity?

The thought has crossed my mind
As I saw this man on the ground
He looked so peaceful
Surrounded by his blood
Suddenly a movement
From his lips
Stopped me
He said ”Please let me die”

In search for euthanasia
He asked for a bullet through his head
I cannot kill this man
Though he’s in agony
In desperation he turned to me
He had lost his strength to kill himself
And end his misery

These visions of horror. Poisoned my mind
They’re haunting me every night
I’ve lost my soul
The promises made to make it back
Forgotten and lost
A funeral mist on my grave will be the cost

He lied there and screamed for help in vain
There’s no hope, there’s no life, only fear, only pain
Who cares, we’re doomed to die anyway
This honourable soldier, he lost his faith
and all believes
When orders to attack came
when only five of them
Still remained

In search for euthanasia
He asked for a bullet through his head
I cannot kill this man
Though he’s in agony
Instead I took the schmeisser
And blew my face all over the ground
A suicidal end to this journey was complete

In the aftermath they were classed as heroes
But no one really cared
Now they’re only shadows from the passed
The truth will never be shown undressed
Since suicide means weakness,
this soldier will never rest

Since this soldier knew, he was meant to die
